In the previous post, it was shared how availing services from a licensed physiotherapist is safe.
In this writing, it will be explained, what they actually do.
When a client meets a licensed physiotherapist, a prevailing understanding is that some easy-to-do exercises will be done, along with some ‘hot, cold or current therapies’.
This is in contrast to what really entails a licensed physiotherapist’s work, specially in situations where aches and pains are repeating in nature, or difficulties in physical movements continue to appear.
A licensed physiotherapist is accountable not only for physically rehabilitating his or her clients appropriately, but is also responsible for informing and guiding them ethically.
To start with, a licensed physiotherapist completes a detailed therapeutic interview of each client, to find:
- What are the problems
- How did the problems evolve
- Past medical history
- Existing health issues, medications and personal routines and habits
The physiotherapist then physically examines the client and goes through available investigation reports from labs and radiography units.
Thereafter, the physiotherapist evaluates all the information gained till this point together, to conclude:
- Whether the presented problems can be solved with his or her approach in physiotherapy or not.
- If yes, then what are the safety considerations, which will affect the dose and design of the required physiotherapy program for the client.
- What will be the timelines of achieving pain relief or improvements in physical movements.
- What will be role of the physiotherapist and what will be concerned client’s role in the therapeutic program.
- What precautions will the client need to observe and what kind of self-exercises the client will be required to perform at his or her home or office.
After explaining all the findings to the client, the physiotherapist answers all his or her queries and concerns and guides him or her to book appointments and start physio sessions in a committed, routine manner.
Watch the awareness video above, by Ravi Shankar, who is a licensed physiotherapist in Delhi. He practices at Sugar Den- The Physiotherapy Clinic, at Janakpuri, in West Delhi. He is also the founder of Start Exercises Club, which endorses licensed Physiotherapists across India, for accountable clinic, home and online physiotherapy services.
In the video, he has given several examples of how his appropriate physiotherapy assessments helped many of his clients to seek medical advices in time, even before they could start with their physiotherapy programs.
He has also given examples, where his clients were guided to have patience and were facilitated to develop a disciplined routine of practicing home exercises and observing precautions, which ultimately resulted in those clients achieving their respective physiotherapy goals in an optimal period of time.
The above video is in English language, in the first one and a half hours and then has been repeated in Hindi, in the second half.
